Born in Muswell Hill, North London, I attended Bishops Wood secondary modern. Later on I went on to attend Hornsey college of art.
My achievements include: (City and Guilds) Qualified stencil cutter, Printer, and Colour matching silk screening, Negative developer for Kay film laboratories, Negative cutting and sound editing at Mike Frasers where I had the pleasure of working on such programmes as Panorama,
Whickers World, and many commercials for Pearl and Dean.
I became a member and shop steward of the film union A.C.T.T. .Over the years I have worked in a variety of industries including, building, and also as a market trader in Borough market,Spittlefields, and New Covent Garden in London, but throughout all this time my love of painting has remained.
In my younger days I spent some time selling door to door in Paris. I couldn't speak the language, but had a great time none the less. I have always painted at home as a hobby and have spent most of my holidays in Scotland. I eventually decided I had had enough of London and moved to Ullapool in the Noth West Highlands of Scotland for its own natural beauty and scenic splendour.
I am indebted to Colin Rheese Davies for opening my eyes to scale and perspective and my old school mate, Photographer John Swannell, for the appreciation of photography and printing.
Since my early working days I was always envious of artists who 'splash' paint on a canvas and end up with something really eye catching and technically very clever.
I always felt I had the ability to draw, but to put paint on a canvas and make an acceptable image is another matter. People say that if you can draw you can paint. I don't necessarily agree with that, but, it does help.
The painters I have always found very interesting are people like Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth, Ian Faulkner and of course Mr Vettriano.
What looks a simple Image to create, is the complete opposite to achieve. I hope some of my images will please somebody. |
